Our Take On Design"The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." A Buzzword for Fashion and Style?Design is a big idea, and probably not what you think. ![]() Design is simply the purposeful arrangement of parts and a high-performance methodology for solving problems. Not just aesthetic problems, but business problems: communication, distribution, strategy, impact, etc. In the eyes of consumers, design often has nothing to do with function at all; at best, they equate design with how an object looks, as well as numerous intangible qualities the object confers - status, fashionability, a sense of belonging, and so on. Apart from the communication aspect, the essence of design is to be problem-solving process. A design problem is a real-life problem with many solutions, some of which meet the problem requirements better, some worse. Some problems might appear not to need 'design' as a solution can be cobbled together without much thought. This is true enough - if the solution can be based on direct experience. However, without experience such a thoughtless solution usually comes to grief sooner or later. So Why Do You Need Design (and Our Expertise)? In a nutshell... To Survive. Most people these days exists by providing 'things' to others: technical muscle-power or know-how, or physical artifacts - that is solutions to buyers' or hirers' particular problems. If these clients are not completely satisfied with the 'thing' provided then they will dismiss the provider, go somewhere else for their next 'thing,' and tell everyone about the provider's unsatisfactory 'things.' Off to see the Wizard...So, why should design matter to you? - Because design reaches far beyond the beauty of an iMac or compelling logo of Target. One area where design matters most - and least considered - is in the creation of systems (of all sorts). |
